Monthly Archives: December 2009

i’m going on a little hiatus for the holidays and just wanted to send a great big mmmmmwah and thank you to all the amazing women and men who have created wonderful, special places to shop & incredible things to buy.

i also wish to thank all the savvy, stylish people who enjoy shopping and supporting local businesses, designers, sellers, crafters and the like.  we all appreciate your business.

may the season end on a high note with great success, cherished gifts and lots of fun!

can’t wait until 2010 – i think it’s going to be a grand year for success & style.  i am so excited to present the Proprietress online boutique to you filled with yummy delights made by talented people.

Pantone just announced that Turquoise is the  Color of the Year for 2010!

Turquoise!

oh goody.  this color is dreamy, vibrant and looks amazing on everyone.  it also pairs well with a variety of colors to add visual interest and your personal stamp:

 - pair with black for a jewel-tone effect
 - pair with chocolate brown for a earthy feeling
 - pair with winter white for a crisp, clean look
 - pair with other brights (orange!  yellow!  fuchsia! violet!) for pizazz!

Whether in small doses (like a great turquoise necklace) or as a main player (like a fab sweater) or as the kicker (as in a great pair of flats!) – you’ll be wise to invest in a few turquoise additions as we move into 2010.  after all, it’s not like colors ever really go out of style, right?!

when you want to arrive looking svelte, confident, stylish and sexy…you wear Eva Franco.  it’s all about the feminine wiles.  a little modern mad men woman – retro styling mixed with contemporary fit.  the fabrics are luxe, the looks to die for.

i used to carry this line at my boutique and every piece was the object of many an “oooh” and “ahhhh”.  if you need a last minute wow dress – they still have some immediates available for fall/holiday.  however, i’d like to share some of my favorite looks for Resort/Spring ‘10.

Behold the Cecile Dress.  wow!  this is a sexy one!  and yet very classic.  it’s perfect in black – but also comes in a vivid blue and a demure beige.

I also love the Olympia Dress in coco dots – this has the ability to what i call “flaunt and cover” – bringing out all the curviest parts of your body, whilst magically whisking away any “issues”.

My third favorite peice in this collection (and trust me   – there are many more gems!) is the Athena top.  loving the vivid sapphire blue with the edgy nailhead details.  i’d style this with some white jeans and distressed gold shoes.

Shoppers:  wondering where to buy these fantastic items?  check the store locator on the website or shop online!

did you ever get those little advent calendars when you were a kid?  i just LOVED them!  each day i was so excited to open the little door and see the surprise inside (generally, chocolate).  I also loved singing the Twelve Days of Christmas.  we’ve probably all sung it in some sort of pageant, choir or whatever.  in any event  – the point is to create a countdown to excitement.  to the big finale!

“On the first save of Christmas, my favorite store gave to me…..20% off pearl jew-el-ry!”

i used to love doing little countdown coupons at ooma.  it’s a great way to reward your best customers – while creating a fun little game.  for example, you could have a color coupons:  each day leading to Xmas (or holiday of your choice) – you could provide a coupon with 20% off Red (yellow, gold, pink, black, etc).  Or you could do coupons that are by designer, or style – whatever works for you (and helps you MOVE merchandise!).  i know small boutiques have a tough time competing with the big retailers with their never-ending sales – so try to have a little fun with it.

**need help creating some awesome coupons for your clientele?  email me:  i’d love to help you conceptualize + create!**

and of course, thank your clients for shopping local.  statistics show that money spent in local boutiques stays in the community  – rather than up to corporate headquarters (or another country, more likely) somewhere.  check out the 3/50 Project for posters you can use to promote this concept.

December!  can you even believe it??  this year has literally flown by.  i’m feeling festive – but in a different way.  i’m loving the sophistication and dazzle of metallic gold with classic winter white.  but you know me – i gotta add some color!  i’ve chosen a fun, happy shade of papaya to mix in small doses.  my outfit is casual – something you can wear when you’re out and about doing all the random things that are to be done around the holidays (sipping hot cocoa, shopping, visiting Santa, checking out holiday lights, attending casual affairs, etc).

So here is my little collage!  our colors are Metallic Gold * Winter White * Papaya!
